On October 9 rrspin will proceed with locking in its subscription plan.
It is a business strategy that I’ve been reticent to push the button on and that’s why it’s taken so long to implement.
As frightening as it was to start this website knowing the obstacles that I would face, it was equally frightening to make the decision to move forward.
But, as I have finally concluded, it is a decision that could possibly lead to getting the editorial help I badly need in the form of an assistant editor/reporter and possibly a sportswriter — either full or part-time in the future.
My hope is that readers will see the value of this — not only the value on their wallets and purses, but in expanded coverage of Roanoke Valley news and events.
As a one-person operation for 15 years now, there are often times when there are multiple events or meetings happening at the same time. When that happens there is a mental deliberation of what event or meeting is going to mean the most to our readers. Most of the time I believe the right decision is made but, as I will always admit, sometimes I make the wrong decision.
By adding a qualified, experienced journalist to this website, I hope to take some of that second-guessing out.
I would like to leave this website as a legacy for future journalists who come to the Roanoke Valley seeking work.
With that explanation being stated, there is still time to take advantage of the $7 a year subscription plan before we lock in at $10 a year.
With great assistance from the Computer Guy & Company of Roanoke Rapids, we have made the process as simple as possible.
There is little to discuss as far as fine print goes.
No checks will be accepted. They will be returned.
Stripe, which is how your payment is processed, is not an app, but a widely used payment system. It is used by Amazon, Instacart, Alaska Airlines, Electrolux, IBM, the newspaper LeMonde, WordPress, Zoom and more.
You don’t have to download anything. It’s essentially like using PayPal and you become an rrspin subscriber, not a Stripe subscriber.
It securely accepts all major credit and debits cards, Google Pay, Klarna and Cash App.
I greatly appreciate the early subscriptions we have had since first announcing this plan.
I do apologize for delaying the rollout, but it has been a tough decision.
It is, however, one I truly believe has the potential to expand our coverage and make rrspin the premier news outlet for the Roanoke Valley.
Thank you — Lance Martin, editor and publisher
