Roanoke Rapids Graded School District had many events and celebrations including Easter egg hunts in the days leading up to Spring Break.

We are enjoying this week of students and staff recharging, and we are excited for them to return on Monday, April 8, 2024, ready to finish the 2023-24 school year strong.

The RRGSD Board of Trustees is considering the adoption of school calendars for 2024-25 in the near future to provide more time for all stakeholders to plan accordingly.

The Calendar Committee wanted to understand the preferences of parents, families, and staff, particularly as it relates to an earlier start date for students, so stakeholders were sent a survey over the past two weeks.

We thank all who completed the survey and appreciate their feedback! The Board of Trustees will have Board Committee meetings on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 6 PM and 7 PM, and the April Board Meeting will be on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 6 PM.

Roanoke Rapids High School is excited for the upcoming graduation of our senior class. Their caps and gowns will be picked up Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in the RRHS Media Center.

Roanoke Rapids Early College had its first adults versus students basketball game on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who came out to support the game with their enthusiasm and encouragement, which made the event a huge success.

On Saturday, March 23, 2024, RREC scholars contributed to the bed-build project sponsored by Tracy Story and The Rewritten Story Foundation.

Whether cheering from the sidelines, showcasing skills on the court, or collaborating to help a family, each person’s contribution made all the difference. Let's continue to build a strong community together!

The State Employees Credit Union recently announced scholarships that were awarded to seniors Cadence Elliott and Kloey Walker. Cadence is a student at Roanoke Rapids High School and plans to attend East Carolina University. Kloey is a student at Roanoke Rapids Early College High School and plans to attend North Carolina State University. We are so proud of Cadence and Khloe!

Chaloner Middle School welcomed the Manning Elementary School fifth graders who toured the middle school campus.

Chaloner students and staff were excited to welcome them and look forward to seeing the fifth graders next year. We are also proud of our Jacket Pride Club members for doing a wonderful job showing them around and welcoming them.

We also extend our gratitude to the Feed A Family organization for their continued support to our students and families.

This organization provides year-round support for students to ensure that all students have access to food and other needed items.

This Spring Break they provided food bags and grocery store gift cards to over 80 families.

Belmont Elementary School is proud of fifth grader Rameel Price, who was awarded the DAR Youth Citizenship Award at the Historic Halifax Visitor’s Center on Saturday, March 23, 2024. This award is given to a student who fulfills the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. Congratulations, Rameel!

Manning Elementary School is looking for volunteers to participate in our first annual Career Fashion Show.

This event allows community members to come to school dressed up as their career and walk the student-lined hallway as we introduce them and their careers over the intercom.

We want students to see the many different career options available to them. After the Fashion Show, students will have the opportunity to visit our Career Fair portion of the event. If community members are interested in this, they can set up a booth and bring props (or large vehicles) to teach the students even more about their profession.

The Career Fashion Show and Career Fair will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 8:30 AM -11:00 AM. For any questions, please email School Counselor Delaney Clark at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Manning Elementary School will also host the Third Quarter Awards for Grades 3-5 on Friday, April 12, 2024.

Grade 5 starts at 8:30 AM. Grade 3 starts at 9:30 AM. Grade 4 starts at 2:00 PM.

Music Teacher Andrea Ford has a special short musical performance planned at the opening of each of these award ceremonies for these students to show off their skills. We hope that you will be able to join us!

At Clara Hearne Pre-Kindergarten Center, Ms. Christina’s, Ms. Debra’s, and Ms. Jennifer's classes are wrapping up their transportation unit.

We extend a big thank you to David's Towing and Customs for bringing the rollback and wrecker for the children to have a hands-on experience this week. In the words of one of our "little friends," it is so pretty. We hope that everyone has a wonderful week!
