Allison Leigh Wrenn of Fredericksburg Virginia passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the age of 59.

Though Allison struggled with a number of health issues during the past decade, she always put others first each and every day of her life. Affectionately known as “O” to her family, Allison was a devoted mother to Jonathan Wrenn.

She was preceded in death by her father, Kennon “Mutt” Wrenn Sr., her mother Hazel Luton, and bonus father Pete Luton, all of whom she loved dearly.

Allison is survived by her siblings Kendra Novey, Randy Wrenn, and Laurie Carr, and was a beloved aunt to seven wonderful nieces and nephews - Ashley Henderson (Kenny), Austin Perkins (Jessica), Anne Levy (Jake), Trae Wrenn, Eric Lynch (Chelsea), Casey Wrenn (Jennifer), and Brent Novey.

Allison graduated from Greensville County High School in 1981 and Greensville Memorial Nursing School in 1983 and began her lifelong profession of caring for others. She worked as a geriatric nurse at Fredericksburg Nursing Home and it was there that she turned a great career into an extraordinary one. While it’s true that Allison loved nursing, it was realizing the remarkable impact that she could have on so many special people that brought her true joy. For Allison her patients were simply extensions of her family and she treated them with the same kindness, compassion, and unconditional love. Whether it was the simple pleasure of a leisurely car ride, raising their spirits when she beautifully painted their nails, or even welcoming them to her family’s gatherings for holiday meals, Allison knew exactly how to give her patients all the comforts of home.

Following two decades at Fredericksburg Nursing Home, Allison continued her commitment to serving those in need as Director of Nursing for Onyx Assisted Living. Though her days were long and the work was challenging, Allison always remained remarkably patient, extremely generous, and tremendously kind. In this role and a number of others within Bridges Senior Care Solutions, Allison touched many lives, and it’s clear just as many touched her. Allison spoke often about how much she cared for every person whom she had the privilege to serve and ultimately befriend. In a life truly based on helping others, Allison was and forever will be a tremendous inspiration to us all. Part of Allison’s success in nursing was also due to her wonderful sense of humor and refusal to let even tough times dampen the spirits of her coworkers or her patients. A quick wit and big personality, combined with fearlessness and a well crafted vocabulary, made Allison simply a joy to be around. When faced with the many unique challenges of caring for senior citizens, Allison could make what started as a bad day one that ended in bright smiles and unbridled laughter. It was without a doubt one of her many superpowers.

In a testament that rings true to who Allison was, she asked not to have a funeral service, as she never wanted to be the center of attention. The family will have a private graveside service at Greensville Memorial Cemetery in Emporia, Virginia, where Allison will be interred beside her dear mother.

To honor Allison’s wishes donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Hazel Luton Scholarship Fund at go.vcu.edu/luton.
