Raymond Elvin (90) and Elizabeth Kathleen Atkins (86) of Crewe, Virginia, who spent their lives transporting people to their destinations as the owners of Atkins Taxi, reached their final one August 4, 2020, as they both entered the Kingdom of Heaven.

They died within minutes of one another.  

The couple were married 70 years and represent the most perfect story of love.  

Raymond started his business in 1953 and was known for his kindness to everyone he met.  She worked by his side and was an Avon Representative for more than 40 years.

The two enjoyed life, always doing right by others and helping those they could.  

Raymond was born March 27, 1930, to Robert Lester and Nellie Kate Atkins.  

Also preceding him in death were four siblings, Herman Atkins, Robert “Peanut” Atkins, and two sisters Helen Baldwin and Essie Black.   

Kathleen was born May 15, 1934 to Ruth and Maston Hastings.  Also preceding her in death were two brothers James and Johnny Hastings.  She leaves behind a sister Ruby Simmons of Richmond, VA and Kenny Hastings of Crewe.  

The couple leaves behind to cherish their memory, 4 children; Ronnie Atkins (Sandra), Brenda Hodge (William), Linda Atkins and her significant other Butch Hailey, and Les Atkins (Stacy), 6 grandchildren; Shelly Stafford (Al), Tony Hammonds (Krystal), Katie Goodman (Matt), William Hodge (Melody), Tracey Hammonds, Brian Hodge. 17 great-grandchildren; McKay, Karlee, Sydney, Cole, Aidan, Ashley, Thomas, Desiree, Derrick, Dominic, Bristol, Memphis, Aaron, Jaxon, Kaydan, Gavin, Hudson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends from the community.  

Please join us in celebrating their lives 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home, Blackstone, VA.  

The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10 a.m. Private Interment to follow. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
