Betty Jo Starnes Whitmire, age 81 of Fort Mill, SC peacefully passed away at her home on Monday, April 27, 2020 after spending the weekend surrounded by family.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at a later date.
A native of Fort Mill, Betty was born to the late Clifford Starnes and Elizabeth Watford Robinson. She was a 1956 graduate of Fort Mill High School. Betty was owner of Betty’s Coiffures and Betty’s Braids of Fort Mill and was a homemaker. She was a devoted member of the Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, where at one point she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and worked with the youth group. Betty was an avid Clemson fan. More than anything she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson; Justin, Tyler, Logan, Hunter, Erica, Toby, Elizabeth and Ryker, also Johnny, David, and Candice Martin. She was preceded in death by her “Dad” Harry Robinson and her beloved husband of 59 years, James Harold Whitmire(2019).
Betty is survived by her sons, James “Jimmy” Harold Whitmire, Jr. and his wife, Tina of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Kenneth “Kenny” Warren Whitmire and his wife, Susan of Simpsonville; her daughter, Deborah Jo “Debbie” Whitmire of Fort Mill; and her sister, Sheri Mummau of Wynnewood, OK.
The family requests all memorials be made to the Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, 109 Harris Street, Fort Mill, SC 29715.
