A man in the company of a woman who later in the day was charged with residential breaking and entering Monday was charged following a stop due to a Flock Safety alert, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Justin Hewlin was driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Guilford County shortly before 2:30 p.m. Nancy Escobar, who with Hewlin in March of 2023 was charged in two motor vehicle break-ins, was with him at the time of the stop by the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force, Harris confirmed.

Around 4 p.m., Escobar was charged in a residential breaking and entering in the Hollister area where the victim was hit about the body, the sheriff’s office reported earlier today.
The task force, according to Harris, received a Flock Safety alert that a stolen vehicle was in the city limits of Roanoke and the driver, later identified as Hewlin, was heading out into the county.
The Flock Safety Alert provided agents with a photo of the vehicle that was reported stolen from Guilford County on Sunday. Agents observed Hewlin leaving a gas station at the intersection of Smith Church Road and Highway 48.
Agents initiated a traffic stop on Hewlin, of Hollister, in the 2000 block of Highway 48.
Hewlin and Escobar were detained and Hewlin initially gave agents a false name.
Harris said Hewlin was attempting to hide his identity due to an outstanding warrant for arrest for larceny of a motor vehicle as well as an order for arrest for breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.
Hewlin was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, operating a vehicle with no driver’s license, resist/delay/obstruct an officer and served with the outstanding processes.
Hewlin was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has a Thursday district court date.
