The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 48-year-old man who sustained several gunshot wounds in the 1000 block of Washington Avenue in Weldon Monday night.

The sheriff’s office has not released the victim’s name.

The discovery of the victim who was lying in the roadway next to a bicycle coincided with a call of shots fired around 10:45 p.m., according to Major Anzell M. Harris.

Patrol deputies and detectives arrived and central communications reported additional calls were received that a person was lying in the roadway next to a bicycle. Deputies and Halifax County EMS located the victim, who was deceased.
