A Jackson man died Saturday night following a single vehicle crash in the town limits.

Sergeant L. Bynum of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the crash which claimed the life of 50-year-old Lashwan Harris occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Anderton Street near Highway 305.

Investigation by Trooper W.H. Wheeler indicates the crash may be related to a medical issue, Bynum said, as evidence showed the vehicle’s brakes were never applied.

Harris traveled off the roadway to the right and collided with a wheelchair ramp at a residence. The vehicle then continued east and collided with a tree. The wheelchair ramp was damaged but the residence sustained no damages and no one was outside at the time.

Harris was pronounced deceased at ECU North.
