ECU Health North recently presented a $17,000 Community Benefit Grant to Helpful Hands and Hearts in Littleton.

ECU Health Medical and the ECU Health Foundation head the grant program, which began in 1998 in Pitt County.

In the five-year grant cycle, ECU Health North has distributed nearly $500,000 in Community Benefit Grants to 68 programs.

“ECU Health North is very fortunate to have the ability to give these funds out in our community and witness how they are used,” ECU North Manager of Marketing and Development Betsy Morris said. “This is one of the many ways ECU Health North Hospital is fulfilling its mission to improve the health and well-being of eastern North Carolina.”

Morris explained that the grant applications undergo a thorough review by a dedicated committee. This committee, she noted, bases its recommendations on how the purpose of the grant aligns with health-related areas, with a focus on early detection, prevention, wellness, community health initiatives, and direct health care services.

Since its founding in 2012, HHH has built more than 400 Americans With Disabilities access ramps for citizens in need. The organization also provides transportation for medical appointments or shopping.
