Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office

Major Anzell M. Harris reported that on Monday around 1:30 p.m. Sergeant. E. Richardson was observing traffic using stationary radar in the area of Ringwood Road.

Richardson noticed that Hakeem Johnte Armstrong, 37, was speeding.

Richardson smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle and also noticed what appeared to be crack cocaine in the center console. 

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of  2.7 grams of crack cocaine, 10 methadone pills and 5.4 grams of marijuana.

Richardson arrested Armstrong and transported him to the magistrate’s office. 

During processing Armstrong, of Enfield, requested to use the bathroom where he attempted to flush more narcotics.

Deputy M. Sledge retrieved a pill bottle containing 26 blue pressed meth pills.

Armstrong was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, simple possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resist/delay/obstruct a public officer, simple possession of a schedule II controlled substance and speeding. 

Armstrong received a $30,000 bond and an August 8 district court date.

Roanoke Rapids Police Department

Chief Shane Guyant reported that on Saturday around 2 a.m., Lieutenant D.A. Newsome observed a vehicle traveling south on Chockoyotte Street above the posted speed limit. 

After a stop, the driver was identified as Kristen Kiaundra Chardee Martin, 27, of Roanoke Rapids. 

Newsome observed signs of impairment and Martin consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.

She performed poorly and Newsome placed her under arrest.

Martin provided a breath sample of .10 at the police department.

Newsome learned Martin's license was suspended due to a failure to appear in court in Vance County in 2022. 

A magistrate charged her with DWI, driving while license revoked, reckless driving, and speeding. She received a $500 bond and an August 16 district court date.

On Friday police received several complaints of speeders on Chockoyotte Street. 

Newsome observed a vehicle driven by a man identified as Devon Lamont Tillery Jr., 29, of Roanoke Rapids, traveling above the posted speed limit. 

Officer M. Morris stopped the vehicle and learned that Tillery had a suspended driver’s license. The strong odor of marijuana emanated from the vehicle.  

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and a handgun was found hidden inside the driver’s side door. The search also yielded marijuana inside the vehicle.

Tillery was cited for speeding, carrying a concealed weapon, driving while license revoked, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. 

The passenger, De’Andric Quavon Tillery, 20 of Roanoke Rapids was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. 

They received September 13 district court dates.
