The board of directors of Halifax County Business Horizons recently honored ECU Health North President Jason Harrell for leadership as vice president of the organization for the past two years.

Harrell is retiring from ECU North August 7.

Ken Braswell, director of manufacturing of Reser’s will be the new vice president of the Horizons board.

In making the presentation, Horizons President Scott Aman said, “Jason’s contributions to the hospital, Halifax Horizons, and all of Halifax County have been invaluable. On behalf of the entire membership of Halifax Horizons, we are pleased to honor him with this plaque as a small token of our appreciation for his leadership. Jason will definitely be missed.”

Harrell has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare and served as vice president of patient care services before being promoted to president of ECU Health North Hospital.

He has seen the Hospital through difficult times, including the COVID-19 pandemic and major flooding of the hospital from a pipe cap failure in 2023.

Horizons said Harrell has been instrumental in raising awareness regarding the importance of broadband for rural health care and the need for housing to support the recruitment of physicians and healthcare workers to our community.

“I am excited about all I see all that is happening in this area and the potential for the future,” said Harrell. “I appreciate the support and confidence that Halifax Horizons and the entire community have shown me during my time here at ECU North Hospital.”
