A juvenile victim was recovering from a gunshot wound to the face that is not considered life threatening, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Police were called to the 100 block of Madison Street around 8 p.m. Friday.

Chief Shane Guyant said juvenile petitions will be sought on another juvenile described as the shooter. He said investigation shows “the shooting appears to have been accidental in nature.”

Investigation revealed that the juvenile victim was shot at their home.

The juvenile victim was transported to ECU North to be treated for a single gunshot wound that entered one side of their face and proceeded to exit from the opposite side. The bullet eventually landed in the victim’s shoulder after exiting the face.

The victim knew the identity of the shooter who is also known to law enforcement.

As of issuance of the press release late Friday night the juvenile was not in custody and the victim had not been released from medical care.
