Halifax County Schools has named Mahalia Carey its new public information officer effective July 9. 

The Halifax County Board of Education approved the Superintendent Eric Cunningham’s  recommendation.

The school system said Carey is a skilled communications professional who is passionate about connecting people and ideas through strategic messaging. “She has a wealth of experience crafting compelling narratives and managing effective communication campaigns. Her career is defined by her commitment to clarity and impact in communications, excelling in developing tailored strategies that resonate with diverse audiences.”

Before joining Halifax County Schools Carey began her career in marketing at an IT consulting firm. 

She holds a bachelor of communications degree with a concentration in public service from Old Dominion University. “Her professional journey has been marked by her ability to translate complex information into accessible and engaging content, making her an invaluable addition to our team,” the school system said.

Said Cunningham: "We are thrilled to have Ms. Carey join our team. Her expertise and passion for communication will be instrumental in enhancing our engagement with the community, parents, and students. We look forward to her positive impact on our district."

Outside of her professional life, Carey enjoys traveling and exploring new restaurants, activities that reflect her love for discovering new perspectives and experiences.
