An Enfield man is in jail without the opportunity for after he was charged with a forcible sex offense Monday by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Captain Scott Hall said Desmond Matthew Brown, 52, faces charges of second-degree kidnapping, first-degree forcible sexual offense and injury to personal property.

The charges stem from an investigation by Detective T. Byers after deputies responded to UNC Nash in Rocky Mount following a report of a kidnapping and sexual assault. The sheriff’s office responded around 1 p.m.

Byers obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 28000 block of Highway 561 in Enfield on the counts Brown was eventually charged with.

Brown fled the residence on foot when deputies arrived but was taken into custody moments later after a brief chase.

While in custody in the rear of the patrol car Hall said Brown kicked the window, causing it to shatter.

Brown was acquainted with the victim. He has an April 25 district court date.
