The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following DWI arrests, according to Chief Shane Guyant:

On Sunday around 6 a.m. Sergeant D. Newsome observed a vehicle swerving on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

Newsome maintained sight of the vehicle. As the vehicle approached Hinson Street it crossed the centerline into the other lane of travel then swerved right onto the shoulder.

Newsome conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. The driver was identified as Corey Tyrell Freeman, 33, of Roanoke Rapids.

Freeman admitted to Newsome that he was not a licensed driver in the state of North Carolina.  During this conversation concerning licensing, Newsome noticed that Freeman displayed signs of impairment.

Freeman refused all standardized field sobriety testing procedures. Newsome determined that Freeman was impaired and arrested him for DWI.

Freeman was transported to the police department where he subsequently provided a breath sample of .11 BAC.

Freeman was taken before a magistrate who charged him with driving left of center, no operator’s license, and DWI.

He received a January 12 court date and was released to a responsible person.

On Wednesday around 11:30 p.m., Lieutenant M. Hunsucker was patrolling in the area of East Tenth Street and Park Avenue when he noticed a vehicle traveling westbound at a very high rate of speed.

According to radar, Harold Anthony Goodson,48, of Roanoke Rapids, was traveling 77 in a 35 zone.

Hunsucker determined the odor of alcohol emitting from within.

Goodson consented to roadside standardized field sobriety testing and breath samples.

It was determined that Goodson was impaired.

Goodson was arrested and taken to the police department where he submitted to a breath examination and registered a .12 BAC.
