Roanoke Rapids police are looking for a Scotland Neck man who fled from a stop Saturday evening.

Chief Shane Guyant said 8 grams of marijuana, 37 oxycodone pills and a semi-automatic pistol were seized following the stop in which Deandre Smith, 33, fled towards Thanos Drive.

Around 7:30 p.m. Officers L. Balmer and Master Officer D. Norfleet were patrolling on Highway 158 near Cardinal Drive when they observed a Taurus with expired tags.

They conducted a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Julian R. Allsbrook.

Guyant said officers noticed very suspicious and furtive movements by Smith and instead of approaching the vehicle the officers requested he step out and come to them.

Smith fled toward Thanos Drive and was not caught.

Warrants are outstanding on Smith for felony carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a schedule II narcotic, possession of a schedule IV narcotic, possession of drug paraphernalia, resist/delay/obstruct, and driving while license revoked.

Guyant said if a person violates the concealed carry weapon statutes for a second or subsequent time the new charge is considered a felony. Smith received a conviction for carrying a concealed weapon in 2021.
