The city this afternoon received a deposit check of $117,500 but no bid on the Roanoke Rapids Theatre.

The check, which City Manager Kelly Traynham said was received July 10 at 3:35 p.m was from Victor Freeman, of The Victor Enterprises.

The city will have to get an answer from its attorney on how to proceed since no bid accompanied the check, Traynham said. City council meets this evening at 5:30.

Traynham did say the check exceeds the minimum upset bid deposit required and that an upset bid in this round would have had to be at least $2,100,050.

The last upset bid received was from the law firm of Wellman & White, which was in the amount of $2 million. That bid triggered another upset bid period in which the deadline was today at 4.
