Halifax County Schools recognized Sharon Arrington as the November Employee of the Month.

Arrington serves as the coordinator of the Halifax County Schools Empowerment Zone.

Her duties are to coordinate and plan a sustainable curriculum for each student, supervise her staff and students, provide counseling to her students regarding post-graduation plans, prepare for employment, and expose students to extra-curricular activities that encourage and promote the development of the whole child.

A consensus from her staff agrees that Arrington goes above and beyond for the students every day.

She spends after-school hours preparing and planning meaningful activities for the students and providing enrichment and professional development opportunities for the staff.

She actively recruits and involves community partners to work with the students to provide real-world experiences.

Arrington also serves as a mentor to teacher leaders furthering their education in school administration and other fields of education.

She provides crucial and critical feedback to the staff that promotes student safety and success and areas of growth for the facilitators at her school.

“I am pleased that my staff nominated me for employee of the month,” she said. “I feel that what I do every day is not a job but a commitment to serving the youth who need that extra push and motivation in our community.”

Arrington said  Working at the Empowerment Zone has given her “the opportunity to show the community that all of our children can make a positive impact in the world. Our students have traveled over many waves. The Empowerment Zone is their lighthouse and place for their educational and personal ships to be repaired and launched in the sea of new opportunities and society.”

Superintendent Eric Cunningham stated, “Congratulations to Ms. Arrington on a well-deserved recognition. We are so glad to have her a part of Halifax County schools, and we appreciate all she does for our scholars. The work that she is doing at the Empowerment Zone contributes significantly to the overall success of our district.”
