A Gaston man was arrested Tuesday for reportedly stealing metal from KapStone and selling it at a local recycling center.

Detective Matt Brown of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office charged Larry Wayne Bedgood Jr., 49, with felony larceny by employee and obtaining property by false pretense.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall said in a statement Brown received information on September 11 about suspicious metals being sold at the undisclosed recycling center.

Investigation by the detective showed the metal was stolen from KapStone and Bedgood, an employee of a subcontractor working at the mill, allegedly sold it for scrap.

It was unclear how much metal was taken and Hall and Brown were not immediately available for comment this evening.

Hall did say in the statement as investigation continues more charges could be forthcoming.

Bedgood received a $5,000 bond and October 17 court date.
