The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Halifax County for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020.

It is the 22nd consecutive time the county’s finance department has received the award.

The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“Our department is so pleased with this recognition for Halifax County,” said Mary Duncan, finance director. “This achievement is the result of a great deal of team work. Our department continually strives for excellence and transparency.”

Interim County Manager Dia Denton said, “The finance department always produces exceptional work, but it’s nice to see it recognized on a national level. I am proud of Ms. Duncan and her staff for holding themselves to such a high standard in their management of the county’s finances. Twenty-two awards in a row are quite an achievement.”
