Since its report last Thursday, the Halifax County Health Department today reported 160 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total since March of last year to 6,343.
Of those 6,000-plus cases, 5,868 have recovered — 93.01 percent — and there are 325 current cases.
There have been 116 related deaths.
Discussing the numbers, Health Director Bruce Robistow said there are some positive takeaways from the report.
“There are no additional deaths for the third week in a row, the number of partially vaccinated people is up to 47 percent and the number of fully vaccinated people is up to 41 percent,” he said.
He said although there is still a way to go to reach herd immunity, “We are finally growing in a measurable positive direction.”
He said the 160 new cases reported today is less than the 193 reported last week.
The positive takeaways in the report have to be measured, however, with other factors, he said. “Let’s not overlook the continued dramatic climb in patients who have not recovered, the increase in percent positives and the dramatic strain being placed on hospitals and healthcare partners.”
