The filing period for the November 2 municipal election will begin on Friday, July 2 at noon and end Friday, July 16 at noon in the Halifax County Board of Elections Office at the Old Historic Courthouse in Halifax for the following municipalities: 

Town of Halifax — Town mayor and town commissioners — five seats

Town of Hobgood — Town mayor and town commissioner — two seats

Town of Littleton — Town mayor and town commissioner — two seats

Town of Scotland Neck — Town mayor and town commissioner — two seats

Town of Weldon — Town mayor and town commissioners — three seats

Roanoke Rapids Graded School District —  three seats

Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District — three seats

The filing period for Roanoke Rapids City Council and the Enfield Town board of Commissioner will begin Monday, July 26 at noon and end Friday, August 13 at noon in the Halifax County Board of Elections Office at the Old Historic Courthouse in Halifax.: 

City of Roanoke Rapids — City mayor and council members District 1, and 2

Town of Enfield — Mayor and town commissioners District A and District B

Candidates who wish to file their notice of candidacy may do so Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. 

Candidates must be 21 years of age, a United States citizen, registered voter, and reside within the district in which they are seeking office. 

In addition to the notice of candidacy, the following sections are included: 

Verification of voter registration 

Disclosure of any felony conviction

Affidavit of nickname 

No title, appendage, or appellation indicating rank, status, or position will be printed on the ballot. 

A filing fee will be required at the time of filing. 

Fees may be paid in the form of cash, personal check, or money order payable to the Halifax County Board of Elections. 

Filing fees in the amount of $50 or higher must be paid by check or money order. Business checks are not acceptable. 

Candidates wishing to spend or receive funds towards their campaign must have a separate account from their personal checking accounts. 

Notice of Candidacy paperwork may only be accepted if received during the filing period. If mailed, the notice must be received by the deadline. All notices arriving after the deadline will not be accepted.
