The Halifax County Health Department today added one new positive case of the novel coronavirus to its data.

This brings the total cumulative number of positives since last March to 5,003.

There have been 97 related deaths.

Northampton County

The health department reported today there have been 1,672 positive cases of which 1,574 have recovered. There are 22 active cases. There have been 66 related deaths.

Vaccinations

The Halifax County Health Department is now taking first dose appointments by online registration for the following groups:

Group 1 

Healthcare workers caring for and working directly with patients with COVID-19, including staff responsible for cleaning and maintenance in those areas

Healthcare workers administering the vaccine 

Long-term care staff and residents – people in skilled nursing facilities and in adult, family and group homes

Group 2

Anyone 65 years and older, regardless of health status or living situation 

Group 3 

Frontline essential workers

The CDC defines frontline essential workers as workers who are in sectors essential to the functioning of society and who are at substantially higher risk for exposure to COVID-19

First responders — firefighters and police officers — corrections officers, food and agricultural workers, U.S. Postal Service workers, manufacturing workers, grocery store workers, public transit workers, and those who work in the education sector — teachers and support staff members as well as child care workers.

The vaccinations are for Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Halifax Community College at the 700 building.

Those signed up must enter the college from the Country Club Road entrance and follow the signs to the 700 building.
