Jamal Summey, an attorney and former prosecutor, has filed for district court judge.
He is running for the Judicial District 6 Seat 3 in the March 3 primary.
He will challenge current Judge Vershnia Ballance Moody, who filed Monday.
In a submitted statement, Summey said, “It is with great pleasure that I inform the citizens of Halifax County that I have filed as a candidate for district court judge. I would be bringing over 21 years of legal experience to the bench.
“As a former prosecutor under the honorable David Beard and Valerie Asbell, I was trained to treat everybody from the same spoon — to be courteous and respectful and make sure every citizen had their day in court. If given the honor to serve as your district court judge, I promise to follow the law. I promise to be fair but firm and ensure that each citizen is treated with respect and dignity.”
