A Friday night fight resulted in one officer having a door slammed on his hand and two other officers having to receive treatment for injuries.
The man arrested in the fight, Kenneth Morris Jr. of Halifax, also allegedly damaged a console in a patrol car and a wall at the police station when he was being booked, according to Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.
Around 9:20 p.m., police responded to Green Garden Court on a fight call. When officers arrived they saw Morris, 24, intoxicated and making gestures to people on the porch.
As officers tried to arrest him a struggle ensued with two of them and Morris was able to break free. The officers chased Morris, who broke into apartment 111 through an unlocked rear door, slamming the door on Officer Will Shaw’s hand.
Morris attempted to exit the apartment from the front door and was caught.
As he was taken into custody he damaged a body mike holster and the console of a police car. At the police station he damaged a portion of the wall, causing about $200 in damage while attempting to fight staff.
Morris was charged with three counts of assault on a government official, three counts of escape from custody, resisting arrest, breaking and entering, disorderly conduct and four counts of damage to personal property.
He was jailed on $15,000 bond and has a May 20 court date.
The officers are OK.
