New rate structures for the Roanoke Rapids Theatre were approved tonight.

City Manager Paul Sabiston told council the rates were based on those from The Centre at Halifax Community College. “It’s a good agreement in general,” he said at the work session. “It’s very competitive with The Centre, some are a little higher like the stage. There are some things they don’t have like VIP areas. I think we have a superior facility. If anyone thinks we’ve overpriced or underestimated we can change these. I think we have a good possibility to make some expense money.”

Under the approved rental rates, stage and auditorium use would be $2,000 for major events and $1,500 for community or nonprofit events.

The city would collect all parking revenue.

Half day VIP room rates with no alcohol would be $300 for the city and $100 for the operator. The same rate with alcohol would be $500 for the city and $150 for the operator.

Full day events for the VIP room with no alcohol would be $500 for the city and $175 for the operator.

The with alcohol rate for a full day would be $900 for the city and $250 for the operator.

A half day for the lobby area with no alcohol would be $500 for the city and $175 for the operator.

The with alcohol fee would be $800 for the city and $250 for the operator.

Full day lobby use with no alcohol would be $900 for the city and $300 for the operator.

With alcohol would be $1,200 for the city and $300 for the operator.
