To educate local leaders about successfully integrating utility-scale solar into their community’s energy mix, the Center for Energy Education will host a workshop on Thursday, February  20, to outline processes and trends of utility-scale solar projects.

The workshop is designed for newly-elected and current public officials, local leaders, and municipal representatives. It will be held at the center’s campus at 460 Airport Road outside Roanoke Rapids  from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A light lunch will be provided.

The workshop will equip participants with essential knowledge about utility-scale solar projects, the economic impacts they bring, and strategies for successful community integration.

The workshop will provide a detailed framework of a utility-scale solar project — from land acquisition, siting, permitting, installation, decommissioning and beyond — and its range of economic impacts, including workforce development opportunities, for a rural community.

The center said participants will gain essential insights and learn strategies to navigate steps toward successful energy collaborations in rural communities.

"C4EE strives to exceed the educational expectations of the audiences we serve, from public officials and community leaders to the general public, as we share fact-based information about the utility-scale solar industry and its positive effects in our local rural communities,” said Mozine Lowe, executive director of C4EE. “This opportunity will help empower community leaders with clean energy knowledge."
