Halifax Community College will hold its Progressive Community Awards Ceremony at 6 p.m. on April 6 in the Dr. Ervin V. Griffin Sr. Centre on the college’s campus.

The Progressive Community Awards recognizes individuals, organizations, and businesses in the Roanoke Valley that have made significant contributions to the betterment of the community.

Awards will be presented in three categories: Community Bridge Builder, Faith in Action, and Youth Impact.

Halifax County Superior Court Judge Brenda Branch will give remarks during the program.

Branch broke new ground when she was appointed as the first African American and first female chief district court judge in Halifax County in August 2008 and the first female chief district court judge in Bertie, Hertford and Northampton counties in 2014.

In 2022, Branch was elected as the new Halifax County superior court judge.
