Cox Mill High School in Concord coach Holly Harris a former Roanoke Rapids coach was one of eight coaches awarded the Homer Thompson Sportsmanship award from NCHSAA Thursday.
Eight "coaches who make a difference" by virtue of their exemplary sportsmanship were honored by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association at the NCHSAA Annual Meeting at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill Thursday.
The award is named in honor of the late Homer Thompson, the long-time Winston-Salem Parkland coach and member of the NCHSAA Hall of Fame.
Coach Holly Harris stated, "I always try to be the change I want to see in others. This is the best way for me to honor and remember Allison Brown and Sheyenne Marshall, two of the most kind hearted. loving people I have ever known.I love them and miss them dearly"

Allison Brown was Harris's 14 year old niece who collapsed at Southern Guilford High School during track tryouts August 6, 2015 and passed away.
Sheyenne Marshallox was a Cox Mill softball player who would have been a senior this season, but her life was cut short tragically July 4, 2015 when she was fatally hit by a drunken boater while knee boarding on Lake Norman.
