Major League action Monday night, the Grasshoppers defeated the River Bandits 7-1.
Stacy Mumford pitched the victory with a complete 6 inning game, striking out 9, and allowing only 1 hit. AJ Strickland and TJ High combined to pitch 6 innings for the River Bandits.
Mumford led the way at the plate for the Grasshoppers with two hits. Rick Lee, and Braden Joyner each had one hit. Mumford, Lee, Chase Nelson, Wade Jenkins, Ryan Barnes, Cole Perkinson, and Aaron Hunter each scored.
Landen Wollet had a hit and scored the run for the River Bandits.
The Blue Wahoos, sponsored by Price’s Refrigeration, defeated the Sand Gnats 11-6.
Caleb Elias started the game on the mound for the Blue Wahoos giving up 2 runs in the first on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. Russell Moore pitched the second inning allowing 4 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Hunt VanDam came on in relief in the 3rd inning. VanDam gave up no runs with no hits, no walks and struck out 7 of the 9 batters he faced. Offensive leaders for the Blue Wahoos were Landen Birdsong with a double and a triple, Ayden Woodall with 2 hits and Caleb Elias, Hunt VanDam, Alex Clark and Michael Hantz all having 1 hit each. Elias and VanDam both had a triple.
Andre Stewart pitched 3 1/3 innings for the Sand Gnats giving up 5 runs on 5 hits while walking 5 and striking out 5. Josh Miller pitched 1 inning in relief and gave up 2 runs on 1 hit while walking 2 and striking out 1. Drew Williams came on in the 5th and final inning and allowed 4 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Offensive Leaders for the Sand Gnats were Josh Miller, Andre Stewart, Drew Williams, Billy Lynch, Jesse Butler and Savion Cole. Butler had a triple and Cole had a double.
