Minor League:   Blue Rocks defeated the Muck Dogs, 7-3.

The Grasshoppers, sponsored by Lisa Christenbury Heating & Cooling, beat the River Bandits, sponsored by Roanoke Cinemas, 7-6 on Dickens Field Wednesday night.

Collin Elias lead off for the River Bandits, visiting team, in the top of the 1st with a single.  Wesley Boerner, pitcher for the Grasshoppers, struck out the next two batters and threw out the last batter-runner at 1st base.

Jake Merritt, pitcher for the River Bandits, struck out two of four batters and Mathew McNichol hustled and caught a fly ball in center field in the bottom of the first.

Mathew McNichol hit a Home Run to center field to score the first run of the game for the River Bandits in the top of the 2nd.  Wesley Boerner held the River Bandits to one run by striking out three of 5 batters.

The Grasshoppers had two hits in the bottom of the 2nd with a single and earned run from Eli Mason and a single from Jorden Hoenig.  The River Bandits held the Grasshoppers to two runs with a tag out by short stop Cole Eure and two strikeouts by Jake Merritt.

The River Bandits came out swinging and took the lead by scoring five runs with a single from Collin Elias and Cole Eure, followed by a single and earned run from Lee Given and a double and two earned runs from Jake Merritt and another single from Dylan in the top of the 3rd. 

The Grasshoppers regained the lead by scoring five runs in the bottom of the 3rd.

The Grasshoppers' defense held the lead in the top of the 4th with 1st baseman, Eli Mason putting out the batter-runner at 1st, a strikeout by Wesley Boerner, and a throw out by 3rd baseman, Mikey Hartson to 2nd baseman, Andrew Vincent for the win 7-6.

Grasshopper Team Highlights:

Wesley Boerner, Ben Keeter, Eli Mason, Aric Stewart and Andrew Vincent each scored one run.

Hunter Sparks scored two runs.

River Bandits Team Highlights:

Cole Eure, Lee Given, Jake Merritt and Joshua Powers each scored one run.

Mathew McNichol scored two runs.

Major League: The Blue Wahoos beat River Bandits 3-2. Caleb Elias pitched the first 2 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits and 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Russell Moore came on in relief and threw 4 innings allowing no runs on 2 hits no walks with 6 strikeouts.

Offensive leaders for the Wahoos were Caleb Elias Russell Moore and Hunt VanDam.

The River Bandits pitchers were TJ High who gave up 2 runs on 2 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in 2 innings. AJ Strickland came on in relief and gave up 1 run on 1 hit with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Offensive leaders for the River Bandits were Zack Elder Landen Wollett AJ Strickland Noah Duhadaway and Ethan Lee.

Wednesday night the Grasshoppers and the Sand Gnats faced off in a fantastic pitchers duel. The Grasshoppers edged out the win 5-3. Stacy Mumford took the hill for the Grasshoppers and Drew Williams for the Sand Gnats.  Mumford struck out 14 on the night and Williams fanned 10 batters himself.

Leading the way at the plate for the Grasshoppers was Mumford with a triple and a homerun followed by Chase Nelson, Wade Jenkins, and Rick Lee with one hit each.  Mumford, Nelson, Jenkins, and Lee all scored for the Grasshoppers. 

The leading hitters for the Sand Gnats were Williams, Andre Stewart, and Hunt Qualls each with one hit.  Josh Miller, Stewart and Williams all scored for the Sand Gnats.
