The Grasshoppers, sponsored by Lisa Christenbury Heating & Cooling, beat the Blue Rocks, sponsored by Oscars, in one of the opening games of the Roanoke Rapids Youth Baseball's 2015 season on Tuesday night at Dickens Field.
The Grasshoppers, visiting team, scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning with a triple from Wesley Boerner with 2 earned runs and a double with 2 earned runs from Eli Mason. The Blue Rocks stopped the Grasshoppers by putting out the attempted steal at 3rd base.
Brayden Mills lead off the Blue Rocks in the bottom of the 1st scoring their first run off a base hit from Colin Clements. Wesley Boerner, pitcher, and Aric Stewart, catcher, worked as a team for the Grasshoppers by tagging out the runner attempting to steal home plate off a passed ball for the 3rd out.
The Blue Rocks held the Grasshoppers to one run scored by Brian Smith in the top of the 2nd, with Brayden Mills, pitcher, striking out 2 of 4 batters and throwing out the batter-runner at 1st base.
Wesley Boerner shut down the Blue Rocks in the bottom of the 2nd by striking out 3 of 3 batters.
The Blue Rocks did not allow the Grasshoppers to score in the top of the 3rd with Brayden Mills striking out 2 of 4 batters and Bryce Ott hustling in left field to catch a pop fly.
The Grasshoppers maintained control of the game with Wesley Boerner striking out two more batters, and working as a team with first baseman Eli Mason throwing out the batter-runner at 1st for the 3rd out in the bottom of the 3rd.
The Grasshoppers scored 5 runs in the top of the 4th with a base hit from Wesley Boerner and a base hit and earned run from Eli Mason.
The Blue Rocks scored two runs with hits from Colin Clements and Hayden Garner in the bottom of the 4th. Wesley Boerner ended the game by striking out the last three batters for a final score of 10-3.
