The Halifax County Tax Collector’s Office has moved to a new location at 3 South King Street in Halifax.

It is in the former bank building across the street from the Historic Courthouse on King Street.

The collections staff handles all matters related to paying Halifax County tax bills.

“The primary reason we decided to relocate the Tax Collector’s Office is to better serve Halifax County property owners and the general public by having a location that is more accessible with nearby parking and a shorter walk,” said County Manager Dia Denton. “Having the Tax Collector’s Office located closer to the Halifax County Administrative Offices in the historic courthouse is also very convenient for our staff who work together regularly.”

The Halifax County Tax Assessor’s office remains located on the ground floor of the Court Services building, located at 357 Ferrell Lane in Halifax.

The assessing staff handles all matters regarding the content of Halifax County tax bills, such as values for real property, personal property and motor vehicles; property listing; land records; GIS mapping; property exclusions and exemptions; present use value deferments; and more.

The mailing address for both offices — PO Box 68, Halifax, NC 27839; website – halifaxnctax.com; fax number – 252-583-9311; and phone number – 252-583-2121 — all remain the same.

When calling, choose option 1 for Collections, option 2 for Assessing and option 4 for Spanish. Both offices are open to the public Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As a reminder regarding the 2024 Halifax County tax bills, taxpayers receive a 2 percent discount if taxes are paid before September 4.

Taxes are considered delinquent on January 7, 2025, when 2 percent interest is added with another 0.75 percent interest added the first of each month thereafter.
