Halifax County has been celebrating National County Government Month this month and on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. will hold its annual Employee Appreciation Day.

County offices will be closed during that time.

“Our greatest asset in providing services to our citizens is our staff who take considerable pride in making Halifax County a better place for their fellow citizens to not only live and work but also to thrive,” said County Manager Dia Denton. “We look forward to celebrating our team of citizen-servants on Employee Appreciation Day and throughout the month of April.”

At their April 3 meeting, the Halifax County Board of Commissioners joined counties across the nation in officially proclaiming April as County Government Month.

The theme for this year’s celebration of NCGM is Counties RISE!, demonstrating how counties show exemplary resiliency, inclusion, solvency, and empowerment.

Since 1991 the National Association of Counties has encouraged counties across the country to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of counties.
