Description: This position is responsible for responding to emergency calls, at the paramedic level, to determine the extent of illness or injury and establishing priorities for required care; performing emergency medical care in accordance with established guidelines and written and verbal instructions from physicians. Other duties include administering medications and IV solutions and inserting airways; transporting persons to the appropriate medical facilities; and performing related tasks as required.

Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by EMT, Advanced EMT, and Paramedic courses provided by the North Carolina State Office of EMS. Prefer applicants with a minimum of two years’ experience and training in emergency medical care. Additional requirements include an appropriate State of N.C. driver’s license, and the possession of State of N. C. certification as an EMT at the Paramedic level. This is a 12-hour position. Please provide a photocopy of all certifications.

Compensation: The hiring range for this position is $38,148-$48,300. Halifax County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System.

Deputy Sheriff I

Description: A Deputy Sheriff is responsible for the general law enforcement work required by the Sheriff's Office. This law enforcement work includes keeping the peace, serving the public, protecting the lives, rights and property of all those within Halifax County. A Deputy Sheriff’s duties include taking calls from the public, serving the public, investigating complaints and criminal activity, traffic enforcement, serving civil and criminal process as well as other papers as required by the courts, developing suspects, arresting perpetrators, providing security for the courts, transporting prisoners and any other special assignments upon request. A Deputy Sheriff is expected to exercise good, sound judgment, make decisions in both normal and emergency situations and use discretion while carrying out the details of each task. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the assigned lieutenant and sergeant. The applicant must be willing to work 12-hour rotating shifts which include holidays and weekends.

Requirements: Graduation from high school / GED. Be at least 21 years of age. Possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Be a United States citizen. Ability to obtain certification as a law enforcement officer in accordance with the North Carolina Sheriff’s Training and Standards Commission. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Meet minimum standards set forth by the NC Sheriff Training and Standards (12NCAC 10B.0301) and discussed in the supplemental Employment Disqualifier document.

Detention Officer I

Description: The Detention Officer I is responsible for the supervision, transportation, and security of inmates housed within the Halifax County Detention Facility. Work involves admitting and booking inmates, preparing inmates for transport and court or medical facilities, feeding inmates, and supervising all other activity by inmates. Work also involves preparing computerized reports and logs, periodic searches, maintaining security, and counseling and advising inmates as needed. Work also requires operating a computer management system and overseeing control and surveillance centers within the facility. Work is performed in accordance with the policies and procedures, North Carolina Department of Human Resources guidelines, and the Training and Standards Council of the Department of Justice of North Carolina. Work is performed under the direct supervision of that employee’s supervisor. The applicant must be willing to work 12-hour rotating shifts which includes holidays and weekends.

Description: Performs intermediate technical on-going support of data entry and computer users for Munis. Requirements: Associate's degree in computer science, information systems or equivalent work experience in an ERP system support role is a plus as it relates to databases.
