RRPD officer memorial unveiling set Sept. 9

The long-awaited unveiling and dedication of the Roanoke Rapids Police Officers Memorial will be held September 9 in Centennial Park.

The Budweiser Clydesdales, an iconic symbol of Anheuser-Busch since 1933, are scheduled to make several appearances in the area.

Fed adoption sought in Meacham Dr. raid

The City County Drug Task Force will seek federal adoption of one case it investigated Tuesday in which 8.5 grams of cocaine was seized.

Halifax County Commission Chairman Vernon Bryant was recognized by the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners for meeting the requirements for the Mentor level in the Local Elected Leaders Academy.

One of the latest issues to emerge in the Operation Rockfish police corruption case is discussion of a warehouse which figured prominently in motions to have Antonio Tillmon’s trial in the matter continued until October.

With a continuance granted in the trial of Operation Rockfish defendant Antonio Tillmon, the sentencing of the other 14 who took pleas in the case is also expected to be continued.

City planner onboard

After requesting the position during budget negotiations earlier this year, the city’s planning and development department has a new planner onboard.

The City of Roanoke Rapids helped lead an effort which has led to the completion of an extensive paving project at the post office.
