Elam chosen as fifth HCC president

Michael Elam, the former president of Ahoskie’s Roanoke-Chowan Community College, has been chosen as the new leader of Halifax Community College.

Cortez Sesson, who was wanted on marijuana counts following a Monday raid and has a pending court date on cocaine trafficking charges, was arrested today by agents of the City County Drug Task Force.

A state Department of Transportation message board toppled this afternoon after a tractor-trailer collided with its support poles on Interstate 95.

RRGSD sets sights on early college

The Roanoke Rapids Graded School District Board of Education Monday approved $30,000 in architectural fees to start the process of developing an early college on the campus of Roanoke Rapids High School.

Halifax Community College has provided interview opportunities for the six candidates chosen for the chance to be its next president.
Today’s interview was with Dr. Deryl Fulmer and is the last in the series which began last week.
The HCC board of trustees will convene at 7:30 this evening at Hampton Inn in Roanoke Rapids where a new college president is expected to be chosen.

Brewer sworn in as commissioner

Linda Brewer officially became a Halifax County commissioner this evening as she was sworn in by Judge Turner Stephenson.

A longtime auto mechanic and businessman has placed a $300,000 offer on the table to buy the Littleton industrial building, formerly the home to a light sport aircraft manufacturing firm.

A man currently awaiting a December 5 court date on cocaine trafficking and other charges stemming from an August raid, faces new charges after his arrest this morning.
