Parks dept. presents Chaloner pool timeline

Parks and Recreation Director John Simeon laid out a timetable for renovations to Chaloner pool which includes receiving three quotes on how much the work will cost.

The city is currently trying to assess drainage problems at the Chaloner Recreation Center pool which have forced its temporary closure.

Thursday's grand opening ceremony for the Roanoke Rapids Skate and BMX Park won't just be a gathering of dignitaries — it will be one of action with a professional BMX team giving clinics and demonstrating their skills.

Three parks which have traditionally served the Southgate, Lincoln Heights and South Rosemary communities, and are part of a Highway 158 corridor improvement project, could see major improvements through significant grant funds.

Council OKs skatepark rules ahead of opening

As the city prepares to open the skateboard and BMX park Saturday, council this evening approved an ordinance amendment requiring its users to wear helmets, knee and elbow pads.
