Council approves resolution accepting theater bid

The prospective owners of the Roanoke Rapids Theatre will have a 120-day due diligence period before they sign a contract to take over the building.

Mayor Emery Doughtie this evening will make a recommendation for city council to approve a contract to sell the Roanoke Rapids Theatre.

As a Monday deadline looms, there have been no upset bids filed on a $3 million offer to buy the Roanoke Rapids Theatre, City Manager Joseph Scherer confirmed today.

Officers recognized at council meeting

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Chuck Hasty honored his officers of the quarter Tuesday night during city council’s meeting and also recognized a selfless act by two members of the criminal investigations division.

Roanoke Rapids City Council this evening backed the inclusion of the historic preservation tax credit program in the federal budget.

Residents next week will have a chance to give their input into a master plan project which could benefit two parks in the Highway 158 corridor as well as Chaloner Recreation center.

Roanoke Rapids Mayor Pro Tem Carl Ferebee has been selected for a two-year term on the board of directors of the North Carolina League of Municipalities.
