Active shooter drill planned Friday at Manning

An active shooter response drill will be conducted at Manning Elementary School on Friday at 8:30 a.m.

An undercover operative from the state Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy was used to gather information which led to the arrests of two women at a Roanoke Rapids business police say was used as a front for prostitution.

A Tuesday night traffic stop led to a search of a hotel room and the arrest of a Florida man on heroin charges.

RRPD roundup: Blotter correction; fentanyl arrest

Chief Chuck Hasty of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department today sent out a correction to a Tuesday blotter entry.

The second person wanted in a July murder on Grant Drive outside Roanoke Rapids was taken into custody in Indiana Monday, Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said in a statement this evening.

Belmont getting own SRO

Roanoke Rapids Graded School District trustees this evening took action on two items related to school safety.

Two elementary schools in Halifax County received school supplies today and two more will get items soon following a donation drive by the sheriff’s office.
