Captain Chuck Hasty of the Northampton County Sheriff's Office declined to comment on why investigators could not proceed any further with possible manslaughter charges in the case of Angela Darlene Tinkham, 41.
The Halifax County Sheriff's Office, according to Lieutenant Joseph Sealey, is also investigating Tinkham for undisclosed crimes.
Northampton County arrested Tinkham Thursday, charging her with deliver a schedule IV controlled substance; possession of a schedule II substance, three counts of dispense medication without a license and two counts of possession of stolen property.
Investigation began November 8 of last year when the sheriff's office and EMS responded to Stanley Drive in Henrico following a call of a person not breathing.
EMS found the 22-year-old, the daughter-in-law of Tinkham, was deceased.
After speaking with the husband of the deceased, Deputy Marcel Goffington called for investigators.
Hasty and Northampton Investigator Courtney Williams worked with Halifax County and the state Bureau of Investigation to piece together what led to the woman's death, Hasty said.
The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death was accidental and the cause was combined drug toxicity.
Search warrants were served and evidence was collected. The search warrant and continued investigation led to the charges against Tinkham, who was jailed on $16,000 bond.
“I would like to thank Lieutenant Sealey with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and Agent Paul Munson with the SBI for all their help in this case,” Northampton Sheriff Jack Smith said in a statement. “Working together has been proven and will continue to be the key to solving crimes in our community.”
