Police Chief Mark Macon said this morning Reginald Tyrice Edwards, 34, was the victim and was shot in the upper body. Macon declined to say how many times he was shot as well as the type of weapon used as the case remains under investigation.
Edwards was found in the middle of the street Macon said, and was apparently on foot at the time of the shooting.
Macon is hoping a medical examiner's report and assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation will help shed light on the case. “Basically we're seeking answers and seeking witnesses. We're asking for help from the public. We really need it. It's a sad, sad situation and we extend our sympathy to the family. The information is very limited. There are a lot of possibilities and scenarios. It could have been a robbery. It could have been a random attack. We're putting together pieces of the puzzle.”
Macon said investigators will try to retrace the last hours of the victim's life. “This is not a guy who would be on the streets causing problems. He was not a violent person and people don't understand why someone would want to hurt him. Our main goal is to get the shooter in custody.”
