Peggy Robinson

Peggy Robinson passed away peacefully on Monday, August 6, 2018, at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro.

She was born on July 2, 1934, in Pensacola, FL, to Dr. Andrew Warren Pierpont and Glendene Stuart Pierpont.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Jimmie Robinson; and her daughter, Martha Robinson Keim.

Peggy studied at Swarthmore College before transferring to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in mathematics.

She was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority serving as vice-president. She was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She also served on the Women’s Council, the YWCA Membership Council and the Panhellenic Council. She was named one of the twelve 1954 college yearbook beauties.

Peggy was very active at All Saints Episcopal Church in Roanoke Rapids. She was the first female voted onto the Vestry, served on the Altar Guild, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

She designed and helped create the needlepoint kneeling cushions that are still in use at the church today.

Her talents were recognized by the members of All Saints Anglican Church in Morehead City. Peggy translated the drawings of one of their parishioners into needlepoint patterns for their kneelers.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she was awarded first place in a national competition for her design and creation of a cross-stitch sampler depicting the Tree of Liberty.

Peggy put her needlework talents to further use by co-founding The Needle Tree, a local business where she sold the materials for all types of needlework and taught classes on knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching and needlepointing.

Many of the patterns that she created are still shared in the community today, including a popular rendition of the historic Roanoke Rapids High School.

She supported many charities, giving generously of her time, from acting as room mother for all three of her children as they went through school to making deliveries for Meals on Wheels.

Peggy was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader who passed her love of books and learning on to her family.

Peggy is survived by a son, Andy Robinson and his wife, Jodie, of Durham; a daughter, Marge Robinson Marks of Roanoke Rapids; two granddaughters, Becky Keim of Richmond, VA and Glen Keim of Durham; one grandson, James Keim of Portsmouth, VA; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
