A Weldon woman was jailed on $15,000 bond after she was charged with numerous forgery and uttering counts for allegedly stealing checks.

Detective Doug Pilgreen with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Melissa Kaye Reese, 40, faces eight counts of forgery, eight counts of uttering, three counts of obtaining property by false pretense, two counts of identity theft, one count of misdemeanor larceny and one count of possession of stolen property.

Pilgreen said Deputy Justin Matthews responded to a call Wednesday about stolen checks in the Roanoke Rapids community and through his investigation was able to arrest Reese.

The victim reported someone had stolen some of his checks, which were cashed at numerous places.

Reese has an August 18 court date.
