Police seek suspect who was shot during morning B&E

Roanoke Rapids police are conducting a manhunt this morning for a breaking and entering suspect who was shot by the homeowner.

Chief Chuck Hasty said the breaking and entering occurred around 3:30 this morning in the 500 block of Raleigh Street.

The homeowner was awakened by noise and shot the intruder who was dressed in all black. No further physical description was immediately available.

The police department has set up a command center at the Aquatic Center and bloodhounds from the Nash County Sheriff’s Office and state Department of Public Safety are on the ground and other officers are doing foot patrols within a perimeter in all directions of the immediate neighborhood.

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputies are assisting and a helicopter from the state Highway Patrol has been dispatched.

Evidence at the scene confirmed the suspect was shot. The homeowner was not injured.
