Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said a computer was seized from the residence of Victor Clarence Garner, 41.
He currently faces charges of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and three counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, the sheriff said in a statement.
According to state statutes, the second-degree count basically reflects the sharing of child pornographic images while the third-degree count reflects its possession.
Tripp said in the statement the investigation began on March 2 after the sheriff’s office received information a resident of the county was allegedly engaging in the act of downloading and sharing child pornography.
A search of his residence was conducted today with assistance from the United States Department of Homeland Security. Child pornography was located, Tripp said in the statement.
The sheriff said federal adoption of the case is possible.
Detective S.A. Bryant investigated the case when the complaint was first received. More charges are pending, the sheriff said, and investigation continues.
Garner received a $10,000 bond and awaits an April 18 court date.
