This morning at approximately 3:45, officers responded to Sheetz on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway about an armed robbery.

When units arrived staff said an older man entered the store and demanded money. Staff complied and the suspect left on a white pickup towards the ABC parking lot.

At approximately 4 a.m., Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Deputy A. Cash located the truck and the suspect at a business on Highway 903 and Interstate 95.  

The suspect was taken into custody without trouble.

Investigator O.L. Wiltise charged Eddie Cossom Jr., 62, of Macon, with common law robbery.

He received a $15,000 bond and March 7 court date.

On Sunday at approximately 2:30 a.m., Officer A. Green and Master Officer J. Hardy were checking driver’s licenses on Franklin near Thirteenth streets, when Tayvon Earl Moody, 27, came through.  

During the check Green noticed Moody reportedly showed signs of impairment.

After observations and tests, Moody was arrested for driving while impaired and possession of an open container.   

During a search Moody was found in possession of narcotics and was additionally charged with possession of cocaine and maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance.  

Moody received a $20,000 bond and April 4 court date.

On Friday at approximately 9:30 a.m., Investigator J.E. Benthall served an outstanding warrant on Courtland Rakeem Price, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, for obtaining property by false pretense.  He received a $2,500 bond and a March 7 court date.

The charges stem from an investigation by Benthall into a report filed in January by loss prevention with Kay Jewelers on Premier Boulevard about suspicious transactions at the store.

Captain Bobby Martin, who assisted in the investigation, said the case centers around Price, a former employee, allegedly overcharging a customer on multiple purchases and reportedly covering up money which was missing.
