Kentwan Balmer has gone AWOL from the Washington Redskins training camp, multiple media outlets are reporting.

Local sources say they have not seen him in the area.

According to Tarik El-Bashir of CSNWashington.com, the team found Balmer’s hotel room empty, but for a Redskins sweatshirt.  Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said that Balmer simply “decided to leave.”

It’s the second time in five training camps that Balmer has gone AWOL.  The 2008 first-rounder left Niners camp in 2010.  He eventually was traded to the Seahawks.

Balmer is due to earn $700,000 this year, the final year of his contract with the Redskins.  He appeared in three games last season for the Redskins, a year after getting 11 starts and playing in 16 games for the Seahawks.

The Redskins can send him a “five-day letter,” which allows the team to put him on the season-ending reserve/left camp list if he doesn’t return in five days.  Or they can just cut him.
