Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputies this afternoon took a man who bolted from district court into custody.

The deputies took Cody Bell of Roanoke Rapids into custody around 3 p.m.
District Court Judge Turner Stephenson found Bell in contempt of court and sentenced him to 30 days in the Halifax County Jail.
Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said, “We have reason to believe an attorney notified Bell of the pending order for arrest which reflected him fleeing court."
Bell has a long streak of pending court dates and fled the courtroom this morning after learning there was another order for arrest against him.
Tripp said Bell came to court today on his own accord. State court records show his appearance today was to answer to charges of misdemeanor larceny and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.
He has further district court dates for a litany of charges on September 21 and 28 as well as a September 19 superior court date to answer to another long list of charges.
He fled from court around 11 this morning.
