Mary Massey Burnette, 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Monday, October 19, 2020.

Mary was born May 11, 1932 to Clifton L. Massey and Mary Belle Killmon in Northampton County. 

She graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School. 

Mary was Executive Secretary and Administrative Assistant to the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce for 50 plus years. 

In 1990, Mary received the Roanoke Rapids Exchange Club’s Golden Deeds award for her Chamber work. She was a charter member of the Roanoke Valley Pilot Club. 

Mary was a devoted, lifetime member of Spring United Methodist Church in Skippers, Virginia. She served as the Church’s choir director, financial secretary, adult Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Women's Circle group.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Cirven Burnette, her son, Jimmy Burnette and her brother Clifton L. Massey, Jr. 

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Debbie B. Dixon (Roy) of Skippers, Virginia and Beth B. Harrison (Ricky), of Benson; a daughter-in-law Betty Burnette Sims of Lynchburg, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Bobby Lee Edwards, Amy VanDam (Mark), Jamie Edwards, all of Roanoke Rapids, Megan Wood (Shawn) of Texas, Whitney Burnette of Lynchburg, Tyler Harrison (Ashley) of Greenville and Sarah Grace Harrison of Benson, five beloved great-grandchildren, Jake and Hunter VanDam of Roanoke Rapids,and Austin, Audrianna and Carter Wood of Texas, sister-in-law, Shirley Acree of Roanoke Rapids; and two special extended family members, Billy and Freda Martin of Gaston.

Mary gave her life to Jesus Christ when she was a young girl and remained strong in her faith throughout her lifetime. She was upbeat, faithful and strong to the end.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Spring United Methodist Church in Skippers, Virginia on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. with family visitation at 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
